ON arrival at Pant y March Farm, in Bala, Wales, the first thing I did was to kick off my wedges, slip on the old flip flops and turn off the mobile phone!

The sun was shining and the view from the hillside of Lake Bala was amazing to say the least.

I wasn’t sure what to expect really, having been camping before but liking my home comforts a bit too much. However, I was really impressed with the ‘tent’. It really is posh camping, with a wooden frame and floor, thick canvas sides with windows and a door that buckle up.

It was surprisingly spacious, complete with running (cold) water, woodburning stove and the essential plumbed toilet (me being seven months pregnant at the time).

The bedrooms consist of one double bed, bunk beds and a canopy bed for the kids and were comfy and cosy.

After unpacking we wandered up to the farmhouse. Llinos gave us the guided tour of the yard with the honesty shop, shower block and chicken coup and told us to help ourselves to the fresh eggs!

The next day we ventured down into Bala onto the Bala Lake railway which took us around one side of the picturesque lake. Later we were invited up to the farmhouse for a barbecue with Llinos, her husband Geraint and family. It was such a lovely evening and the views are absolutely breathtaking.

On Sunday Llinos took us on the farm walk, a round trip tour up the side of the mountain, where we saw the lambs and sheep, met the farm’s pig and Llinos told us tales of mythical creatures which inhabit the lakes and mountains.

I was sad when Monday came around and we had to pack up and go home.

Llinos and Geraint had been so friendly and welcoming and the weather had been amazing, which obviously helps. But even so, with the wood burning stove the tent was so warm and cosy at night, it was a great family holiday.

There are over 20 Featherdown Farms in the UK. They may be a bit pricey for camping but it’s definitely worth it for the novelty value. I would certainly recommend Pant y March Farm and can’t wait to go back or even try another some time soon.
