Armed Man Takes $100 And Phone At Restaurant

A man with a gun barged into a Broad Street restaurant Thursday and stole $100 from a customer and the cash register, police said. He also stole the telephone, apparently to delay calls for help after his escape. No one was injured. Later Thursday, on Allen Street, a man in his 20s accosted a 71 year old man as he was getting into his car. The thief took the man’s wallet and ran away. Wednesday before leaving the bank, at 252 Allen St., with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police identified him as the suspect based on witness descriptions. He was arrested and charged with third degree robbery, third degree larceny, and second degree breach of peace. Billins is held on $250,000 bail.

William G. Norton, formerly of Allen Street, Terryville, died Wednesday at Cook Willow Convalescent Home, Plymouth. He was 93. He was a lifelong resident of Terryville and was retired from the former Eagle Lock Co. in Terryville. He was a member of the Terryville Congregational Church. Mr. Norton is survived by a brother, Sumner Norton of Southbury; a close friend, Beth Marrero of Terryville; and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Esther (Hinkley) Norton, died previously.

, a retired nightclub comedian, died Monday at Hartford Hospital. He was 87 and lived in West Hartford. Mr. Neistat entertained at various nightclubs in the Catskill Mountains and hospitals during World War II. Twenty men and seven women were arrested during the New Britain Police Department’s operation in the downtown area Wednesday evening, Sgt. Jeanette Saccente said. A female officer posed as a prostitute and a male officer posed as a john, she said.
