Another called him a ‘filthy animal’.
But others spoke out in his support with one posting: “Sorry,let’s be fair the way the team were on Saturday,
you are the most excitement the club has had for quite a while, unfortunately for you.
“Let it blow over and never drink again.”
Northumbria Police this morningreleased a statement confirmingthe teenagerhad not defecated on his seat.
It read: “A 17 year old male was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in a sports ground and has been dealt with appropriately.
“At no point did he defecate on his seat.”
A spokesman for Sunderland AFC said: “We are aware of the situation and Northumbria Police are dealing with the incident.”
One Sunderland fan who was sitting close by insisted Mr Mawson was taking ‘a sitting down wee’.
He said: “He had a sitting down wee. I’m certain he was drunk and didn’t have a clue what he was doing, he was asleep for the whole of the first half.”
