A 29 year old Scranton man is charged with helping to steal packages off of a city porch last week and detectives are seeking the identity of a second thief.
Avery L. Searcy, 1013 W. Dec. 6, and swiped three boxes off the front porch, Detective Sgt. James Pappas wrote in a criminal complaint.
The value of the stolen packages two suitcases, a speaker and a gas valve is $640.
Police received surveillance footage of the theft and posted clips on the department’s Facebook page, “Be Part of the Solution,” to help identify them. It worked. Police identified one suspect as Searcy.
Searcy wore a black coat, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and New Balance sneakers in the video, police said. When officers visited his home, police said he was wearing the same jacket, sweatshirt and sneakers. They also could see one of the stolen suitcases on his living room floor.
Detectives seek the identify of the second suspect. In the video, he wore a blue winter style cap with ear flaps, a dark colored jacket that may be The North Face brand and blue jeans. He looked to be in his late 20s or early 30s.
Searcy is charged with criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property and was released after his arraignment Friday on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
