HAMMOND A 38 year old man was charged Monday in the shooting death of a Hammond man who was celebrating his birthday, according to court records.
Jimmie E. Jacobs Jr., of Hammond, was charged with murder and remained in the Hammond City Jail without bail,
according to court records.
Jacobs was a guest at the birthday party Saturday nightfor Lonnie L. Williams at Williams’ home in the 1000 block of Bauer Street in Hammond. According to the affidavit, Williams broke up a fistfight between Jacobs and another guest, Don Taylor.
A friend of Jacobs called police and said Jacobs asked to use his car because he had just killed some people, according to the affidavit. Jacobs allegedly told the friend he planned to die “suicide by cop” if he was stopped by police.
Hoyda said Hammond officers and state troopers knew about the the alleged conversation Jacobs had with his friend.
Jacobs was previously convicted in Lake County on charges of possession of cocaine and intimidation,
according to court records. He also was convicted in Cook County on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon.
