UPPER MARLBORO Despite feeling a little under the weather, North Point head girls soccer Kiante Webb was full of joy at the end of the night.

Webb watched his Eagles deliver a 7 0 blanking of the Parkdale Panthers of Prince George’s County in Tuesday night’s Class 4A South Region championship at Wise High School.

North Point (14 2 1 overall) took its unbeaten streak to 15 in a row after handing Parkdale (10 1 3) its only loss of the season.

It was the 10th shutout for the Eagles, who have outscored their opponents 82 7 on the season.

After coming one game short of a region final appearance in previous years, North Point finally overcame that hump of winning a region crown.

“This is real special man. We have stuck together and played hard all season,” Webb said. His team started the season 0 2. “When we stick to our game plan it is not too many teams that can touch us. Them getting over this hump especially the seniors, this is a big win for them. Hopefully we can get the next one here on Saturday and then Loyola for the state championship game.”

North Point dominated from start to finish as it surged out to a 3 0 midway through the first half and took a 5 0 halftime lead.

Leading the Eagles attack was senior forward and captain Brianna Reid with three goals on the night, while assisting on a goal in the game.

“This is a really big accomplishment because during the summer we said that we want a [state title] ring and this was another big step,” Reid said. “We have two more games left and our main goal is to win it all. The season started off rough, but we love each other to death and I would do anything for them. Our bond has gotten stronger toward the end of the season.”

Also getting in to the scoring act for North Point was Mikayla Johnson, who scored the first goal of the game five minutes in. Jordin Anderson scored the second goal of the game on Reid’s assist.

In the second half, Isabel Piazza and Courtney Moss also connected on shots at the back of the net.

During the 4A South playoffs, the Eagles used suffocating defense and was able to control possession, allowing just one goal during their region run in a 2 1 victory over Bowie in the Section II semifinals.

The biggest win of the region playoffs for North Point thus far was shutting out SMAC archrival Leonardtown 1 0 to put it in its first ever regional final game.

North Point senior goalkeeper Tailor Gammons did not record a save in Tuesday’s game due to a stifling defense that did not allow a shot on goal in the game.

Despite a tough loss to end the season, Parkdale head coach Rebecca Bethea proud of her team’s deep run in the postseason.
